If there’s a mythical creature that I’ve been fascinated
with for as long as I can remember (and that I can’t remember not liking) and a
mythical creature that would be my favorite mythical creature if I had to pick
just one, it would be dragons. There are
other mythical creatures that are among my favorite mythical creatures
(centaurs and sphinxes in particular), but to me, none of them hold a candle to
dragons. That aside, this entry is going
to be about how I became fascinated with dragons.
My fascination with dragons started when I was a kid and
it stemmed from the dragon art that I saw (as opposed to stories or books about
dragons that I read). While I don’t
remember what dragon art it was, I do remember that it wasn’t art of any
specific dragon – just art of dragons in general. There was just something about dragons that
fascinated me, but I don’t know what it was.
At first, I just looked up dragon art on the Internet
(which I would do early in the morning while everyone else was asleep). Over time, my fascination with dragons expanded
to the point where I collected several kinds of dragon items (dragon figures,
dragon t-shirts, dragon necklaces, etc.) on occasion. I occasionally read stories and books about
dragons and watched movies about dragons as well. There were times when my fascination with
dragons wasn’t huge (particularly, when other things attracted my attention),
but in spite of those times, my fascination with dragons never faded.
Years later, my fascination with dragons took a bit of a
surprising turn when I started having dreams about dragons. At first, I just had occasional dreams about
dragons from works of fiction. Then, a
few years ago, a turning point happened:
I started having dreams about a male green Western dragon that was not
from any work of fiction that I had been exposed to, was not from any of the
dragon art that I had seen, and appeared in my dreams literally out of nowhere. I could only wonder what this dragon
was. After I had some more dreams about
this dragon, I came to the conclusion that this dragon was a creation of my own
subconscious mind. Even after I came to
that conclusion, I was still confused and I still had some questions. Who exactly was this dragon? Why was this dragon appearing in my
dreams? The answers to these questions
would be somewhat revealed in later dreams that I had about this dragon – and
be answers that I would come to based on the dreams that I had about this
dragon.
